Athirapally waterfalls is renowned as the Niagra waterfalls of India. This great waterfall is located in Thrissur district in Kerala, which is at the south-west coast of India. This waterfall is located on Chalakudy river, which is about 145 kilometers long and has originated from the western ghats. This smooth flowing river becomes turbulent when it reaches Athirapally. This river provides habitat for about 85 fresh water fish species. This waterfall is having a height of 80 feet. Because of its eye-catching beauty, this waterfall played vital roles in various hit movies. The recently launched Bahubali is filmed here and that sprouted the number of visitors to this beautiful falls.

Athirapally Waterfalls in Kerala Famous Waterfalls in India

There are many plantations in this area. These plantations usually consists of teak, eucalyptus, bamboo etc. For the visitors, daily jungle safari trips are being arranged by the tourism promotion council of Thrissur district along with Athirapally destination management council. This jungle safari is very much famous among the tourists, as it provides a priceless watch on the wildlife through the evergreen forest of the Sholayar ranges in Western ghats. There are few other small waterfalls also located in the Chalakkudy River, near to Athirapally waterfalls. The first one is, Vazhachal, which is located about 3 kilometers from Athirapally. This waterfall and the nearby area are famous for its richness in the case of flora and other herbal plantations. The second one is the Charpa falls, which is located between Vazhachal forest and Athirapally waterfalls. This waterfall is more beautiful during the rainy reason. 

How to Reach Athirapally Waterfalls?

Nearest towns:

Cochin – 70 kilometers

Coimbatore – 160 kilometers

Chalakkudy – 30 Kilometers

Rail:

The major railway station nearest is Eranakulam town (ERN) & Eranakulam Junction (ERS). Prepaid taxi is available at both stations.

Road:

Athirapally is well connected by roads. The fall is around 70 kilometers away from Cochin, 55 kms from Thrissure, 30 kms from Chalakkudy and around 100 kms from Munnar. The drive from these small towns to the waterfall is a breathtaking one. Taxis are available from these towns.
