Beaches in Kerala

The beach area of Kerala spread across 550 kilometers coastline. Kerala shares a place among the list of most exquisite and exotic beaches across the world.

1. Cherai Beach

Cherai beach is located near Vypeen island. This island can be easily accessible by boat. It will take just half an hour to reach cherai from Ernakulam. This lovely beach is ideal for swimming and thus by enjoying the golden rays of sun. The unique fact about this beach is, this is having sea on western side and backwaters on eastern side. Cherai beach is one of the most searched tourist spot in Kerala. Thickly arranged coconut grooves adds up beauty to this beach.

2. Kovalam

Location: Kovalam is located about 16 kilometres from the city of Thiruvananthapuram, South Kerala.
Kovalam is one of the internationally renowned beaches in Kerala. It is having three adjacent crescent beaches. Since 1930’s Kovalam was famous among the tourists from different parts of the world as the favourite leisure spot. Kovalam beach is ideal for sea bathing because of the creation of a beautiful bay of calm and fresh water by the, massive rocky promontory. This beach has several leisure options leisure options like sunbathing, swimming, ayurvedic massages, special cultural programmes and catamaran cruising etc.

3. Muzhapilangad

This beach is located about 15 kilometres from Kannur town and about 8 kilometres from Thalassery, in Kannur which is the northern most part of Kerala.

Muzhapilangad beach is a drive-in-beach. It is a vast beach, which covers an area of about four kilometres. The main speciality of this beach is that, we can drive down the entire length of the beach. This is said to be an amazing experience. This beach area is really calm and beautiful as this area is still remains unexplored.

4. Shangumukhham Beach

This beautiful beach is located in Trivandrum district. This beach is very much ideal for spending your evenings by enjoying the scenic attraction of sun set. During day time, we can enjoy sights of the activities like fishing using large fishing nets. The main attraction of shangumukham beach is the long mermaid structure. It is about 35 meters long. The jelly-shaped restaurant is another attraction.

5. Alappuzha Beach

Alappuzha beach is located in Alappuzha district in Kerala. There is a beautiful park near by the beach. The light house near Alappuzha is one of the tourists attraction spot. Very long before, Alappuzha beach was one of the most famous port in Kerala. The remains of the Alappuzha sea bridge is still there, which will gives us the memory of good old business days. This bridge served as the passage to carry the goods that are coming via ships through the port. Alappuzha is renowned as the “Venice of East”. This beach is a beautiful movie location too. Many movies were shot here.
